The BMW Hong Kong Derby, one of the most prestigious events in Hong Kong’s racing calendar, will take place on Sunday 23 March at Sha Tin Racecourse. This race is not only the third and final battle in the Four-Year-Old Classic Series, but also a once-in-a-lifetime chance of fame for every racehorse, and an honour coveted by all horse owners, trainers and jockeys. Actor Donnie Yen to be Derby Ambassador once again
International movie star Donnie Yen will once again be at Sha Tin to enjoy the Derby excitement alongside the passionate crowd. Since taking on this role of BMW Derby Ambassador in 2013, Yen has witnessed countless glorious moments, carrying the mission of promoting the Derby maxim – “Once-in-a-Lifetime Glory for Four-Year-Olds” – which embodies the warrior spirit of this historic race. Reflecting on his role, Yen says that every March serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of “focus”, “determination” and “perseverance” in achieving success. He is looking forward to experiencing the thrill of this prestigious showdown once again, live at Sha Tin Racecourse.
Popular singer Leo Ku returns as guest performer, promoting racing tourism through the power of music
Having previously taken the stage at major racing events in 2009 and 2016, beloved local singer Leo Ku will return to Sha Tin Racecourse on 23 March, promising a captivating opening performance for the BMW Hong Kong Derby.
Beyond music, Ku has been actively promoting Hong Kong's music culture in recent years. Through his participation in “Infinity and Beyond 2024” and the production of his hit programme Music Panda, he has fostered exchanges between different generations of musicians, revitalising the local music scene and showcasing Hong Kong’s musical diversity to audiences in Mainland China and abroad. Music Panda even topped Hong Kong’s Most Popular Videos of 2024 on online sharing platforms. As the guest performer for the BMW Hong Kong Derby, Ku says “I hope to combine my passion for music with the excitement of racing tourism to attract more younger racing fans, Mainland and overseas tourists, giving them a vibrant, unforgettable music-meets-racing experience at Sha Tin Racecourse!”

The Derby Challenge will take place on 23 March from 10:30am to 2:00pm underneath Mezza One in the Sha Tin Racecourse Public Betting Hall. The six participants who answer the most questions correctly in the shortest time within one minute will each win a designated prize and an entry ticket for the Final Round. This will take place at 3:10pm at the Tipster Forum, where the six finalists will compete in a live quiz showdown for a chance to win prizes worth a total of HK$30,000.
